The photos are drool-worthy and Dorie's advice is like having the kind support of your mom melded with a professional baker in the kitchen with you。 My other Dorie cookbooks are stained and splattered—which is the best compliment, in my opinion。 This one will surely end up just as battered with so many options for breakfast, dinners and desserts。 Dorie's smart basics will help any level of baker and Baking with Dorie - Sweet, Salty & Simple is just as delicious as all of Dorie Greenspan's books! (No。 ) In fact, this one may earn 5 stars, and absolutely deserves it。My initial foray into blogging for a wider, not-myself audience (we’ll overlook the LiveJournal days) was as a food blogger, and Greenspan actually attended the same foodie conference I went to in my s I almost feel like by definition, anything by Dorie Greenspan will be amazing。 😀 She’s a legend in the food world, a present-day Julia Child。 Is a review really necessary? (No。 ) In fact, this one may earn 5 stars, and absolutely deserves it。My initial foray into blogging for a wider, not-myself audience (we’ll overlook the LiveJournal days) was as a food blogger, and Greenspan actually attended the same foodie conference I went to in my second year–IFBC, if you were curious。 While I did get to meet her briefly (and she was as fantastic as I expected), I’m still kicking myself for not showing up with a bag full of cookbooks for her to sign。 Perhaps one day, post-covid!Baking with Dorie is beautifully photographed, its purchase practically justified for that alone。 Can the baked goodies leap off the page and onto my plate? (While I’m at it, can they be calorie- and yeast-free? 😀 I know, I’m dreaming!) I loved simply drooling over the pictures and found them inspiring in themselves before I even examined the recipes。A number of the “breakfast stuff” in particular contains yeast (which I don’t optimally get along with), so while I might not make these for myself, I’m confident they’d make great gifts for loved ones–and would still make my kitchen smell great, which is half the fun! I loved the how-to on biscuits and scones (two things I definitely can have), and am excited to try some new varieties and see how they compare with some of my tried-and-true favorites。 Cottage cheese biscuits, in particular, sound like a great option; I often have quite a bit of cottage cheese left over from the week’s meal plan, and never know what to do with it。 Problem solved!I also love that the ingredients lists include both “regular” measurements (cups, etc。, for us mortals) and metric。 Said meal plans have seen me dipping my toe into metric lately, so having both is nice。 The inclusion of both savory and sweet recipes also makes me super happy–something for everyone。Section overviews and pre-instructions blurbs give insight into the “whys and wherefores” (as well as shine a light on Greenspan’s own experiences with a recipe), and instructions are clear and easy to follow (yayyy)。All in all, a gem, and one I’m looking forward to purchasing upon release (and, one day, getting it signed :D)。I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

I love a cookbook that reads like a novel, has beautiful pictures of each recipe, and teaches you something about cooking or baking that you didn’t know before。 Dorie Greenspan’s newest cookbook Baking with Dorie: Sweet, Salty & Simple does those very things! I much appreciated that Dorie gave measurements with traditional measuring cups and also with grams, which is much more accurate。 I liked that many of these look like traditional recipes, but they have a surprise ingredient, flavor combinat I love a cookbook that reads like a novel, has beautiful pictures of each recipe, and teaches you something about cooking or baking that you didn’t know before。 Dorie Greenspan’s newest cookbook Baking with Dorie: Sweet, Salty & Simple does those very things! I much appreciated that Dorie gave measurements with traditional measuring cups and also with grams, which is much more accurate。 I liked that many of these look like traditional recipes, but they have a surprise ingredient, flavor combination or additional ways you can “play with” the recipe。 I loved that she put her “pet” recipes in this cookbook, which she calls her Sweetheart recipes。 Each chapter/collection of recipes has its own table of contents, where Dorie brings your attention to her Sweetheart recipes, denoting these with a red heart in front of their names。 There are so many recipes that I am looking forward to making, but I must admit that the cake collection will probably be my starting point。 Now to decide between the S’mores Ice Cream Cake, the Lemon Merengue Layer Cake or the Lisbon Chocolate Cake, that graces the cover。 Thank you to NetGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

I think this book has a LOT to offer。 There are so many recipes I can't wait to try, and I've bookmarked all of them! I think the layout is phenomenal, and the idea of the sweetheart recipes is adorable (sweetheart recipes are her absolute favorites of each section!)。These recipes are for people who really enjoy the process of baking, who are willing to have a ton of ingredients on hand, and who thoroughly appreciate how much love and care can be put into a recipe。 I think every single one of Do I think this book has a LOT to offer。 There are so many recipes I can't wait to try, and I've bookmarked all of them! I think the layout is phenomenal, and the idea of the sweetheart recipes is adorable (sweetheart recipes are her absolute favorites of each section!)。These recipes are for people who really enjoy the process of baking, who are willing to have a ton of ingredients on hand, and who thoroughly appreciate how much love and care can be put into a recipe。 I think every single one of Dorie's recipes speaks to this, and that's what makes this book so special。The photos are warm and feel like you're stepping into Dorie's kitchen with her。 There's no ego behind any of this book, and that is the most delightful thing about it。Thank you to the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this cookbook。 The photography is beautiful and Greenspan is a good writer。 Her recipes read long, but that's because she really takes the time to talK the reader through each step。 She explains how things should look each step of the way, and how to tell if you've run into a problem。 She describes the processes very thoroughly, and gives a good idea of the time frame needed to complete the steps。 This is very helpful。 The recipes are varied, some fairly traditional and some dif I really enjoyed this cookbook。 The photography is beautiful and Greenspan is a good writer。 Her recipes read long, but that's because she really takes the time to talK the reader through each step。 She explains how things should look each step of the way, and how to tell if you've run into a problem。 She describes the processes very thoroughly, and gives a good idea of the time frame needed to complete the steps。 This is very helpful。 The recipes are varied, some fairly traditional and some different and unusual。 The main criticism I have is that the cover claims the recipes are "simple。" This, I believe, is somewhat misleading。 There may be some recipes in here suited for beginning bakers, perhaps。。。 but the vast bulk of them are better for experienced bakers looking to stretch their skills。 Included is a chapter on breakfast baking, which has recipes for breads and muffins as well as treats like Crumb-topped Ricotta Coffee Cake。 There is also a chapter on savory baked foods, which was one of my favorites。 This included things like Asparagus-lemon Quiche, Tomato Tart, and Goat Cheese and Black Pepper Quick Bread。 There were also chapters on cakes, pies and cookies, among other things。 The cookie chapter was the weakest chapter, in my opinion。 Some of the recipes seemed overly fussy and not as appealing as the rest of the book。 The final chapter included a whole host of helpful recipes for things like crusts, doughs, fillings, sauces and ice creams。 This was a great addition。 Overall, a very pleasing, interesting and useful baking book。 I would definitely recommend。Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC。 。。。more

Beautiful photographs accompany the recipes。 While the recipes may seem a bit intimidating when looking at the picture, Dorie explains each step well, and the result is worth it! I have to confess, I am a Dorie Greenspan fan! From the first time I tried her World Peace cookies, I knew I was going to like her, and this new cookbook, Baking with Dorie, is no exception。 There are so many fabulous sounding recipes in here, but being a coffee lover, I just had to give the Mochaccino Muffins my first attention。 I will tell you that if you don't like any other recipe in this entire book, THIS one is worth the purchase price! Who needs a cup of coffee when you can have it in muf I have to confess, I am a Dorie Greenspan fan!
